Lambs Led To The Slaughter

The new television series known as V is a must see for everyone. The V stands for visitor as in aliens from outer space. It could also stand for vanquishers as that seems to be the objectives of the aliens. It can also stand for victims as in all the people so grateful to be part of something new and helpful that they join a group without considering the consequences.

The story is about space ships that come to the major cities on Earth and offer peace, technology, and health programs in exchange for water and some mineral they need for survival. The aliens have the appearance of good looks and cultivated good manners. Most of the humans on Earth accept the aliens as a new and exciting change to lives that are made difficult due to recession, bad health, and constant wars. Slowly the true character of the aliens is revealed. They request media people that will only portray them in a positive light and bribe them with a future of fame if they agree. The seduce the young people of Earth to join them as ambassadors of the aliens with hopes of belonging to the new and different as well as the hope that they can hook up with some of the young and charming aliens. The aliens offer miracles in terms of health solutions. The aliens are calm, well-mannered, and charming. They have a strategy of being nice to everyone that goes along with what they want and of causing the dissenters to disappear. Only a few people wise up to the threat these aliens could offer. Some of the dissenters set out to convert others to their position but are so vocal and obvious that they attract the attention of the aliens and are soon in a battle that few will survive.

As a strategy for making a victory over the people of Earth, the aliens have been around for a long time causing political unrest, stirring up wars, and wrecking the economy. Then when hope for the future seems the least likely, the aliens offer a rest from a dismal struggle. Like lambs to a slaughter most of the people get in line to take the easy way out. Those who become aware of the reality, find themselves alone and in danger of death. I wonder if it is not better for the weak to dumbly accept their fate and go willingly. Most of all, I hope that we have the courage, initiative, and inventiveness to find ways to repel the aliens and preserve our search for liberty.
