Brother's Keeper: My thoughts

Recap:

Samuel and some others are are recycling cans while Hiro studies Charlie's name tag. Hiro wants Charlie, Samuel wants a film that was burned eight weeks ago by Mohinder, who Samuel then killed. At first Hiro thinks Samuel wants him to save Mohinder, but Samuel quickly corrects him, Samuel just wants the film.

Nine weeks ago in India Mohinder is giving lessons to some girl in plate tectonics, because when I want to learn geology I know my first choice is a geneticist. Hey, they both start with a g. After the girl leaves Mohinder's girlfriend gets pissy about a box of Chandra's research that was delivered a month ago that Mohinder said he would throw out. Mohinder puts it in a trashcan.

Tracy's (isn't she dead) in a diner looking at a fly-er for the carnival. She then gets bitchy with a waitress over the waitress's lack of sensitivity to the plight of carnival freaks and unintentionally freezes her coffee mug until it shatters.

Peter and Nylar in Nathan mode enter Nathan's office talking about the week he just lost. They find out Angela told his office he was on vacation and didn't know when he'd be back. The Haitian shows up and tells Nylar not to come any closer, then after they move away tells Peter he needs to know the Truth. Cue opening credits.

Claire is bringing some laundry to her Dad's apartment when she finds the door open and the doorknob shattered from being frozen. She then creeps in and arms herself with a knife. She hears someone behind her and spins yelling "Freeze!" to Tracy. Do you get it? DO YOU GET IT? It's because she can make things FREEZE! What a knee-slapper. Tracy then explains she didn't mean to break and enter, she's just freezing things at random, and ice crystals form on her hand to demonstrate.

Back at Nathan's office the Haitian is telling Peter that Angela sent him to wipe their memories but he's not going to because some lines shouldn't be crossed. He then gives Peter a card and tells Peter to go there alone and the truth will be revealed.

Back in India Mohinder can't get to sleep and (I know you'll be shocked) gets his Father's research out of the trash and watches a film titled Samuel. In it he learns about a child who can affect seismic activity, and whose power is multiplied around other specials.

Back in New York Claire helps Tracy into a hot bath, only (surprise, surprise) for the water to freeze. Tracy jumps out and starts freaking out at Clair, when Clair grabs her to calm her down, then Claire freezes.

Nylar and Peter arrive at a storage shed (of course Peter didn't listen to the Haitian, you didn't really think he would, did you?). They find Nathan's body, which Peter doesn't believe is Nathan's. Nylar touches it and gets some highlights from his "death", then they go looking for Matt Parkman.

Tracy is trying to drag the now ice-cubed Claire to the bathtub when her foot breaks off, Tracy collapses in tears. Claire then sits up and Tracy freaks out, Claire explains she can heal.

Back in Nathan's office Nylar and Peter have a touching talk about a past they didn't share then Nathan's assistant enters with Matt's location.

At the carnival Hiro is trying to time travel but can't make it work until Samuel (the guy holding his girlfriend hostage) gives him a pep talk. Yeah.

Mohinder Macgyvers together a compass to find Samuel then falls asleep, to be woken up by his girlfriend pitching a fit about him looking at his father's research. She drops an ultimatum and leaves.

Nylar and Peter arrive at Matt's hospital and Peter heals Matt. Matt tries to warn them away but Sylar takes him over and touches Nylar's hand transferring himself back to his own body. In the process Nylar knock out Peter and a cop, picks up Peter and flies the coop.

Eight weeks ago at the carnival Mohinder finds Samuel, only to have Samuel's brother Joseph cock-block him. Then they (Mohinder and Joseph) enter the trailer for a chat.

At the hospital Matt mind-rapes a cop into giving him all of his clothes and believing Matt is dead.

Nylar tries to ditch Peter on a hill top in some kind of noble sacrifice, but Peter steals flying and goes with Nylar.

Eight weeks ago at the carnival Mohinder drops the big news on Joseph about Samuel, to find out Joseph already knew. Joseph tells Mohinder to burn the film and that they must keep Samuel from finding out about his true potential. Mohinder, being a total retard, asks Joseph how does he know he can trust Joseph. Joseph rather accurately points out that he's kept the problem under control for more than 40 years and pretty much tells Mohinder to fuck off. Mohinder does so, but unbeknown-st to them Samuel was outside the trailer listening. Mohinder calls his girlfriend and leaves a message saying she was right and he would be home soon. Is it his fault he's dead wrong? He then starts to burn the film, only Hiro pops up and freezes time.

Claire and Tracy are on the couch sharing a taster's choice moment and talking about strange carnie's they've met and how Tracy's thinking of joining when Noah comes in and sees the detached foot on the table.

Eight weeks ago at Mohinder's motel room he unfreezes and sets fire to the film Hiro put in place of the Samuel film. Then Samuel kicks in the door wanting to know how to increase his power, Mohinder refuses and Samuel crushes a rock and zaps the shards into Mohinder's chest. After Samuel leaves Mohinder gets up revealing a Kevlar vest and Hiro pops in explaining what's going on asking Mohinder to disappear for eight weeks until Samuel releases Charlie. Mohinder refuses, and Hiro freezes him saying he'll make Mohinder disappear.

Present day at the carnival Samuel's having dinner when Hiro brings him the film. And then in a move that I'm sure shocked everybody, refused to release Charlie. Then we cut to Mohinder in a straight jacket and rubber room being pumped full of drugs under a different name. Then Matt calls Janice to let her know Sylar's out of his head. Tracy meets Samuel at the diner. And Nylar and Peter discuss who he really is. Nathan, or Sylar.

My thoughts:

I haven't really followed Heroes since the end of the third season, but this still seems a bit of a mess to me. Amongst other things, Samuel seems to have done a hell of a lot in just eight weeks. Then there's Hiro, why would he believe this guy? Then once he finds out that what got him rolling was Mohinder's visit, why not just travel back to before Mohinder reached the carnival and tell him not to go? Also, why the hell would he put Mohinder in a nuthouse? If he just wanted him to "disappear" for eight weeks, why not bring him to the present and drop him off somewhere far from the carnival? Assuming he believed Samuel was going to give him Charlie, and against all rational thought apparently he did, that would give him enough time to pop to the carnival and get Charlie.

Just as a side note on Hiro, "evil butterfly man"? Seriously? I know his English isn't great, but I'm pretty certain he can manage Samuel. Having him constantly say "evil butterfly man" makes him sound retarded. With the way they're writing him maybe that's the point. Maybe he is retarded. They made him 10, after that, I'll believe they'll do anything.
