Newest Star Trek Installment Takes Us Back to the Beginning, with Style

Director J.J. Abrams is bringing his television and film success to the eleventh installment of the Star Trek series. Starring Christopher Pine as Captain James T. Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Commander Spock, this new film will take viewers back in time, to the beginning of the first Starship Enterprise from the original 1960s television program. If the movie trailer is any indication, the journey will not be for the faint of heart. The opening scenes of the trailer show a young Kirk contemplating his future in the shadow of the Enterprise construction site. We are soon swept away into a preview of the dazzling special effects and personal conflicts that await us. This prequel film has a spirit that remains true to the soul of the Gene Roddenberry's original, while Abrams' penchant for mysterious and intriguing plot developments promises to offer a successful restart to the Star Trek franchise. Current "Trekkers" will appreciate the film's attention to detail, from the design of the Enterprise starship to the back stories of the main characters. However, this film also promises to draw in a new fan base with its young cast and hip, faster pacing. Star Trek will boldly go to theaters May 8th, 2009.
