Sean Murray - McGee Is Part of The NCIS Family

The phrase 'it's a small world' really holds true when it comes to the production of NCIS. Another possible song to represent some members of the cast and crew could be 'We Are Family'. Sean Murray, who plays Special Agent Tim McGee, is a part of that family.

You see, Murray is the stepson of Donald Bellisario, the writer and producer of NCIS. Sean is the son of Bellisario's fourth wife, Vivienne. He was also a character on JAG before NCIS branched off of that show. Interestingly enough, he was the only character to be able to make the jump the way he did. The character he plays on NCIS is not the same character he played on JAG, but they were able to reinvent him for the roll of McGee.

On the family front, everyday on the set may seem like homecoming for Murray as a number of members of his family are also a part of the larger NCIS production family. His brother Chad also works on NCIS as a part of the production staff. Additionally, his step-brother David Bellisario is one of the producers on the show whose name you may have seen a time or two in the credits and wondered if it was a typo and that they meant his father, Donald. And you remember the show in which McGee's sister Sarah needed his help? Well that woman was not only his sister in the show. If you read the credits you would have seen that the person playing that character was Troian Bellisario, his real life stepsister.

Another interesting family tidbit relating to Sean Murray and McGee is that his father was once the executive officer on the Naval Air Craft Carrier the USS Enterprise. That gives him his own personal naval connection bringing him a little closer to his role as part of the NCIS team.

But that is where the connection between Sean Murray and Tim McGee ends. Unlike McGee who has a tough time getting a date, Murray is happily married and has a young daughter named Caitlyn Melissa Murray who was born in May of 2007.

Also unlike McGee who is not too worldly, Sean Murray has spent plenty of time seeing other parts of the world. While he was born in the Washington D.C. area, he spent a good portion of his childhood in Australia and is a dual citizen of the US and Australia.
